As any startup or small business knows, managing and finding an office can be an unwanted and unaffordable weight on your mind, especially when you could be focusing that energy and income on growing your customer base. Here’s where coworking comes in.

A shared office could be perfect for your business as it scales, and by taking advantage of the facilities, affordability, diversity, and collaborative nature, they can make the perfect home for your company.

Coworking is perfect for otherwise isolated freelancers. Working from home might sound brilliant, but studies show that 42% of regular home workers dealt with insomnia, compared with 29% of regular office workers, blurring the lines between work and a decent personal life balance.

It’s also perfect for small start-ups, as demonstrated by companies like Spotify, Instagram and Uber, all of which started their life in a coworking space. In fact collaborative workspaces have been shown to be so beneficial to employee creativity and mindset, that even established brands like such as Microsoft, IBM and Dell, have moved teams into coworking spaces.

Coworking gives you something that a small isolated office cannot provide, and that is a sense of community, both in connection to other businesses in the space, and also to the community of the local area. Often this is the most common reason that people seek a coworking space, as shown by this study by The Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Many businesses realise that this sense of community allows for new opportunities, and mutually beneficial relationships to be built with other businesses in the space. Looking for an accountant? There could be one sat three desks down! A Knoll study indicates that 82% of coworkers cited an increase in the size of their business network.

The same study also shows that coworkers said that

  • 89% of them were happier at work
  • 68% felt their skill sets had improved
  • 83% felt less isolated
  • 84% felt more engaged and motivated

Deskmag’s Annual Coworking Study found that 62% of coworking participants increased their standard of work. Surveys show that 64% of coworkers are better able to complete tasks and 68% reported that they were able to focus much better on their work.
